This is something I wrote in my online journal that I felt like sharing here.

~Being Sensitive...has many disadvantages. I am sensitive to light and sounds, I cry when I watch the news and I take things personally, because I am a person. I bruise easily, but I have never been broken!

I've made apologies for my sensitivity for years, mistaking it for weakness rather than strength. But Cheryl told me "your sensitivity is your greatest gift" at a lecture here in Denver. My sensitivity is an awareness that guides me through the dark. It's what warns me when something is wrong and it's what wakes me when things are good. If it weren't for my sensitivity I would not be a student, a volunteer, a loving wife and mom or a good friend. I am all those things because of where I wear my heart. ~

Thanks for allowing me to share this with you.

tamakay,

That is a very beautiful and thought provoking realization. You are truly a blessed individual.

Hi, I just wanted to greet another sensitive person. I agree with Cheryl that it's a great gift. I also have almost forty-two years of learning what it means. While growing up hearing "you're so sensitive!", and never in a complimentary way, the gift has been slow to be seen.
I'm also too sensitive to watch the news and also dramatic movies and most other stuff on tv. Having children nine years ago has increased what was already unusual sensitivity. Raising kids when you feel what they feel, plus your own feelings, can be pretty debilitating. I struggle to remember the gift and also be a good parent. Setting boundaries is tough because I over empathize. With everyone actually.
I just put this out there because I wonder if I'm alone a lot of the time. It was nice to read that there is another out there somewhere. I would love to hear from anyone with similar challenges who seeks positive solutions to working with this gift.
Sincerely, Shesaboutspirit
