Hello,

I came to this site after taking Stephen Simon's class last month. Cheryl was our guest speaker and a delight to listen to. We were discussing our dreams. Last nite, before i went to sleep, I asked my guides to teach me through a dream and let me remember it this morning. They did, but, I don't totally understand my dream. Can anyone help.
(dream) I was in the ocean on a beigh raft floating. It didn't feel quite right. I felt like it was going to sink, which it did. I went to the bottom of the water and was laying on the raft. My dad, (who is deceased) was standing next to be, just standing in the water. I was starting to choke and talked to him through my mind and asked why the raft sank. He reached for my hand and lifted me up and said that I needed to remember to breathe. It was so nice to have a dream seeing my dad.
I am not good at dream interpretation. Does anyone have a clue?

Sincerely,
Maria from R.I.

Hi Maria! :)

I keep a dream journal. Dreams can be very revealing, but you're right that the symbolism can be hard to interpret. It's very subjective.

I'm no expert in this area. It's something of interest that I dabble in. You may want to check out some dream books, whether at your library or local bookstore. There's a slew of them out there!

What I can tell you about interpreting dreams, is that our subconscious will "work out" problems or focus on things that are on our minds. It could be something that happened that day. Or, maybe you've been wanting to make life changes, so your mind will explore this.

It's important to note what you "feel" during your dream. This helps with your interpreting the images. It's possible for us to be everyone of the characters in a dream - all the people, the animals, even an inanimate object. Then again, it's possible to dream of ourselves as who we are in waking life and all the other people, animals and objects in our dream are what they really are and not symbolic. Dreams are complex.

As for your dream...water is definitely about our emotions & subconscious. This is about your feelings. What does the raft represent? Are you in a situation where you're trying to "stay afloat"? The "raft" doesn't feel quite right. So maybe whatever the raft represents, something with work, a relationship, etc. isn't working out?

Fathers are known to be authority figures, they may offer guidance. The type of relationship you had with your father determines his role in your dream. It seems he's giving you positive advice. Remember to breathe...are you trying to do too much in life? Are you overwhelmed? Do you beat up on yourself?

This could be your inner self telling you to take a breath, slow down, and re-group.

This is one thought of what's happening. But the only one who can really interpret it, is you. Because only you know what's going on in your life & what your inner thoughts and feelings are towards life events & the people you know.

Best of luck, Maria. And remember.....breathe....trust yourself. :)

Thank you for your reply,

Yes, I now can understand more about my dream. I have been quite overwhelmed. I am a screenwriter and writing 4 scripts at one time which I don't normally do. But, I had to revise something that was requested and have other commitments so I have been totally overloaded. My father definitely is guiding me and I know he is reminding me to breathe and slow down or none of my work will get done properly.

Thanks so much,
Maria
