hello everyone! for months i've been trying to figure out what it is that i want to do when i grow up, even though i'm 28 yrs old. i haven't done the treasure map exercise that cheryl richardson has suggested, yet, but i plan to purchase her book & do that soon. anyhoo, the reason for my post is that i also read that your passion(s) can come to you in your dreams. after months of praying that i would receive some sort of sign, last week something was said in my dream that hadn't been said before. the faceless person in my dream emphasized how i should become a pharmacist. i haven't even taken a chemistry/biology class since high school. i really believe that i should follow my dream, for i haven't received any other sign & it's within reach. do you believe in dreams? would you follow your dream even if it seemed far-fetched, but realistic? i just want to know of other's opinion. thanks!!

Hi,
Yes, I would follow my dream even if that is how it came to me. (In a dream) I am a firm believer of God working in mysterious ways. I have a friend who, in her forties, just woke up one day writing lyrics. Very good things have been happening to her since that time.
I am in my forties and I am trying to realize a dream so being twenty-eight isn't bad! It's never too late to realize a dream. Think of the women and men who went back to college and earned degrees in their forties, fifties, sixties, and even seventies. Think about all the people that successfully started their own businesses after working for someone else for years. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it.
I would suggest for you to follow up on your dream by finding out what be a pharmicist is all about. The study of science and all things scientific is something I'm very fascinated in, but my first love is music and my second love is business. What should happen is that the more you read up on what a pharmicist is and does, the more you will want to do it. Ther needs to be a love there that is hard to explain and understand.
I believe in dreams and following dreams, but I also believe in taking a realistic approach to recognizing and realizing them. I have a feeling that this is going to work out for you, but be smart, and get as much information about your dream job as possible so you will have the tools to make your dream a reality.

thank you sherelle1 for your response. since my post i've been asking a few of my associates their opinions. they told me to go for it. & based on my ability to catch on quickly & my determination, they believe it would be perfect for me. i've been doing research since the day after my dream. it's a highly competitive field, but i know i can do it. i really appreciate your honest opinion, for some people think dreams are a waste of time. are you taking any steps towards your passions/dreams for music & business?

Dear plhollins,
When I was younger, my father knew I had a very vivid imagination. He told me that I could do anything I put my mind to. This is what I am telling you. Dreams are what the heart is made of. Never, never, never feel that following a dream is a waste of time. Just follow your dreams with realistic fervor to make them come true. This is my honest opinion. The owner of many a corporation started out with only a dream. Hard work and perseverance can make any dream a reality.
To answer your question about what I have done to make my dreams about singing and writing music a reality, I started taking steps a couple of years ago by getting into the studio and actually recording a demo which is five songs strong now. I moved closer to my family which turned out to be Metropolitan Washington, DC. I have found opportunities that I never had in rural Ohio. I have sung the national anthem twice now for the Washington Mystics of the WNBA and have had a full page interview in the Washington Times about what it's like to sing it. From there, I received a call out of the blue from Ted Landphair of Voice of America radio and had a similar interview which aired internationally a few weeks ago. I also have the chance to be in a musical play starring as the voice of Anita Baker and I am preparing to do a radio interview for that in the next two weeks.
My final step is to go back into the studio and make a good CD and release it myself on my own label. I am doing research now to see what is involved in getting investors to back my jazz project. I already took the initiative to have CD cover photos taken. I now have some of the connections in place to tour and open for major acts. I just have the hurdle of putting out a superior CD to overcome. So far, so good as far as quality is concerned. I jsut have to finish it. Sorry you asked, huh? :)
So you see, it takes faith and perseverance to get to the finish line. It also takes a commitment. That should be the first thing you decide on. Once you commit, then lay out a game plan for yourself. I hear that there are a lot of resources on this site to help you accomplish this. Utilize them and get all the support you can. I wish you a happy life journey and the fulfillment of ALL your dreams.

Hi Plhollis,
Yes, I do believe in dreams. If your dream is to be a pharmacist, then go for it! A sage piece of advice Nancy B, from this board, gave me--interview someone who is currently working as a pharmacist. Ask them to describe their day, what they like most about their job, what they like least about their job, etc...
If after the interview, you feel like this is the career for you, then go for it.
28 is not old. I'm planning on entering graduate school in the Fall of 2004. I will be 42 years old. My aunt graduated from nursing school when she was 48 years old. She went on to be a top notch surgical nurse. So, I'm a firm believer in it's never to late to follow your dreams.
Good luck,
Tam

Hi plhollins,
I find your story so intriguing! I love the way the Universe came through for you. When I read your posting, though, one thought came to mind. '' Do you love it?"
Although I absolutely believe in the sacred saying 'Ask, and you shall receive', I also believe that sometimes the messages are meant to be explored. In other words, they aren't always 'black and white'. I think it's awesome that you've been exploring the career of a pharmacist, as your (night) dream suggested, for that's of course the only true way to find out if it's right for you.... and, if you "LOVE IT"!!! I guess that's my one question... do you love it? Have you done a job shadow with a pharmacist to see if you would absolutely love going to work every day? Have you talked with pharmacists to see what they like and not like about their work? Have you watched them working at a pharmacy to see if you could see yourself doing what they do?
If yes, and you have found a 'true passion', I am so very happy for you! :-) If not, I highly recommend you do these things, and brainstorm other ways to explore this career before you make a decision to spend thousands of dollars on your education. In my career-counselling experience, the one thing I've found clients to benefit from most is experiencing it for themselves.... really 'living it'. That way you can 'feel it' in your bones, heart and soul in addition to processing just the 'facts' about what you've read.
And if it happens that you don't think you'd enjoy it as much as you hoped or thought... perhaps the Universe is using the idea of pharmacist to point you in a direction 'relating' to that career? You also might want to think about how clear it was in your dream, and the possibility that 'pharmacist' could be something else, like nursing or medicine, or other fields like nutrition or homeopathy... owning a business... or if you're a writer, maybe even writing about pharmacy or related ideas..
I hope all this makes sense. I had a very strong feeling I was supposed to share this with you, so I hope it might help? I am also on a self-exploration journey of my own, so I just SO understand all that goes with it... !
Good luck to you, and I would love to hear how your journey unfolds!!
Sincerely,
truthseeker* :-)

first, i would like to thank everyone for her sound advice. i will definitely take heed to it all. coincidentally, i have to go to the pharmacist to pick up a prescription. if it's not too crowded, i'll see if the pharmacist has time to answer a few questions.
truthseeker - i understand everything you've said. & to answer your question about do i "love it" -i really don't know. all i know is that they make pretty decent $, & that's where i want to be someday. i don't have to be rich, just live comfortably....
u see, i never dreamt of becoming a pharmacist while growing up nor of any other type of professional in the healthcare field. the reason why this is such a dilemma for me is becz a pharmacist is such a big leap from what i thought i wanted to go to school for, which was film studies.....i can honestly say that i absolutely love movies. so much in fact that my daughter's nickname is cinema. since dreams have so many interpretations, i don't know how i should look at them. i was pretty confident about this dream becz pharmacist make good $ -period! & everytime i decide on a major &/or share that information w/someone, he/she'll tell me how there's no $ in that particular field. so i figured now if i go to those same people & tell them about my dream, they wouldn't say anything about the $.
sherelle1 - WOW! no, i'm not sorry i asked. thanks so much for sharing w/me your experience. sounds like you've been plenty busy. the national anthem, a potential musical play, that's great. i'm glad to hear that you're following-up on your passion. thanks for the encouragement, sherelle1 & everyone else......

To all those that replied to this subject area. I have found that there are no excuses. It doesn't mean that people won't rain on your parade from time to time. Go above them, around them - do what you have to do. Just be gentle and kind despite those who don't have your heart just yet.I have wasted too much time ( I am 45 ) worrying about what others think. That is their problem.
Take good care and remember to be bold and wiser as Desiree tells us in her song!!!!!!!!!!
