Hi. Im a new user, and just wanted to tell you a little bit about me. And my situation.
I'm 37 years old and am doing a lot of self-improvement searching. I have had a lot of dead end jobs that never really ment anything to me but a pay check.
What I would really like to do is find a job that I could feel good about getting up in the morning and be excited to be there.
I have many passions and hobbies, Im just trying to figure out which one(s) I could encorporate into a career.
I'm passionate about the environment, animals, children, and my family. I am a artist of many mediums.
I feel as if I'm getting too old to start going to school to get a degree, only to find out, it's not what i wanted to do. I have some friends that did that, and had to start all over again from scratch.
I would like to have a non profit job, supporting my interests (listed above); and working with people that share my passions.
I am a television junkie; anymore, I think that just about the only thing on regular tv (I don't have cable) is public television. That is where I first saw Cheryl. One of my favorite shows is Jack Hannas Animal Adventures. But, it does frustrate me a bit, because they always have these groups of kids that are volunteering, or inturning for some animal husbandry experience, and when I get on the web-site to investigate on how to get involved, it says its only opened to highschool or younger aged kids.
By watching all the great shows on pbs, I've discovered that I love to learn about new things. Especially, history.
I always tell people that school was the worst 12 years of my life. I bearly graduated from high school, so when I got out, I was really releaved.
But, because of being a fairly bad student( not really bad, I was just not taught the way that I learn.) I'm kind of gun shy, and because I have a complex about my age, and being too old to start anything new, Im kind of afraid that if I don't investigate very hard about what I might like to go to school or training for, that it would just be taking more time; I do want to experiment, and I don't think that it would really be wasting time, if I do get a degree or training in something and then decided it isn't really what I want, it would be a learning experience, but I do want to at least narrow it down to a couple of options.
I'm trying to figure it out on my own, but I know that I need some assistance of some kind, and I thought that this might help.
I listened to "finding your passion" on cd, and it was great, and very inspiring.
So, if any of you out there have any suggestions about where I might go from here, it would be greatly appreciated. And I hope that I can help someone else with anything that I can.
-Thank you.
-Sunshine.

Hello Sunshine! What came to mind as I read your post are several groups that I have been in contact with in my area in the past month. One is an equine rescue group; another Tigers for Tomorrow; and the third is a monkey rescue. All of these groups use volunteers to help care for the animals. I do not know where you live. I do not live in a metropolitan area, and because there is still acreage available, I'm sure they chose this area. Another way to interact with animals is if you like horses you can volunteer at a therapeutic riding program. You can find all of these places through the internet. Good luck with your search! LM
