Topic of the Week

Follow Your New Self

Lately I’ve been using a simple strategy to help me make a few healthy changes in my life and this week I thought I’d share it with you.

If you feel stuck or frustrated about achieving a new goal, try this.  The next time you’re faced with taking action, ask yourself two questions:

What would my old self do?
What would my new self do?

Then take the “new self” action .

Let’s imagine you have a goal to get out of debt.  In order to get unstuck and move in the direction of success, you’ll need to do something different.  When you’re about to take an action related to money – buy something new or pay your bills, for example, ask yourself these questions to determine your next, best step.

If your old self would go ahead and charge the jacket you really want to buy, but you realize that your new self would hold off because you can’t afford it, hold off.  If your old self would pay your bills a few days late and your new self would pay them on time, pay them on time (or even a few days early ).

You can use this strategy for a variety of situations…

Want to find a job? If your old self sits at home sending out resumes and you discover (by asking the questions) that your new self would get out to network, start networking.

Want to lose weight?  If your old self goes to the gym only when he or she feels like it and your new self would go every day of the week, get moving every day.

Ready for a romantic relationship? If your old self sits at home wishing and dreaming about the kind of partner you’d like to meet, but your new self knows you need to call a few friends and ask them to introduce you to people, pick up the phone and start calling.

Get the idea?

It’s funny; we human beings are pretty smart.  Most of us know what we need to do to make positive changes; we just need to ask the right question and follow directions.  The strategy is working for me and I know it can work for you, too.  Come on!  Let that beautiful new self of yours lead the way to a healthier, more successful life!

Take Action Challenge

It’s simple – every time you stop to ponder an action you need to take related to an important goal, ask:

What would my old self do?
What would my new self do?

Then, choose new every time and watch your life fly to new heights!

This week’s video is precious.  Check out this beautiful baby hummingbird and his/her unlikely daddy .  You’ll find it here.  Thanks, Judy!
