Life Makeover for the Year 2019

How to Manufacture Magic

November 25, 2019

It’s a cold, raw day here in Massachusetts with a blustery wind blowing leaves across the yard and clouds so low they nearly touch the ground.  I woke early, pulled the comforter up to my neck, and nestled into the delicious warmth of my bed.  I’d like to stay right here, I mused to myself as I stretched my legs and wiggled my toes.  It’s just that kind of day…

But sleeping late wasn’t on the agenda.  After a few minutes, I got out of bed to ready myself for the morning.  I was about to embark on a yearly ritual I share with a friend where we shop at a local art fair and then enjoy breakfast at a favorite café.

I love rituals, especially this time of year.  Whether we’re getting together with friends, placing candles in the windows, decorating the tree, or putting holly on the mantle, these activities make the holidays feel festive and special.

This week I’m going to enjoy another favorite ritual inspired by my dad long ago.  As we celebrate Thanksgiving here in the states, I like to share my gratitude with others, especially those who often get overlooked.  For example, I’ll send a letter to an elderly friend, bring cookies to the post office and police station, and leave a larger than normal tip for a waitperson after enjoying a meal out.  These little ways of saying thank you are fun and they brighten someone’s day in unexpected ways.

I bet you have your own rituals that make the holidays merry and bright and I hope you enjoy every single one over the next few weeks.  Happy Thanksgiving to those of you who celebrate the holiday and if you don’t, I invite you to manufacture a little magic anyway.

Count your blessings.
Share five things you feel grateful for with a friend.
Or, surprise someone with an unexpected thank you.

Let the fun begin!

Love,

Cheryl
